Family Based Child Care

Acquiring Child Care

If a parent/guardian receives cash assistance from the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) they may qualify for free or low-cost child care. The parent/guardian must contact their DTA case worker and ask for a child care referral.

Children who are receiving, or at risk of receiving, protective services from the Department of Children and Families (DCF) will be referred for subsidized child care by DCF.

Children experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness may be eligible for subsidized child care through the Homeless Child Care Services contract. The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and/or DCF must issue a referral for a family seeking to enroll their child in care through the Homeless Child Care Services contract.

The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) also provides child care financial assistance for families in need. In order to be eligible for funding, you and your family must meet income-based and service need requirements.
